Tom Yum Goong
A hot and sour soup with shrimp (goong). Its main ingredients are galangal, lemongrass, chili peppers, fish sauce, lime juice, kaffir lime leaves and fish sauce. The spicy dish is one of Thailand’s favorites.
Gaeng Keow Wan
Green sweet curry usually served with chicken. Its main ingredients are coconut milk, fish sauce, green curry paste, sweet basil leaves, lime leaves, green peas and green chilies, that are pounded and give the curry its color.
Pad Thai
A stir fried rice noodle dish with chicken, beef or as a vegetarian dish with tofu. Its main ingredients are eggs, rice noodles, dried shrimp, peanuts, lime, tamarind juice, sugar and fish sauce fried all together in a wok. Usually not spicy, although you can add chili.
Khao Soi
A noodle soup with chicken from North Thailand. The main ingredients are coconut milk, chicken broth, egg noodles, fish sauce, sugar and the khao soi paste made with chilies, garlic, shallots, ginger, coriander, turmeric and curry powder.
Tom Kha Gai
Hot silky coconut soup with chicken. Its main ingredients are galangal, kaffir lime leaves, ginger, chicken broth, mushrooms, coconut milk, sugar, fish sauce, lemongrass and chili.
Massaman curry
A mild curry dish from South Thailand. Traditionally a Muslim dish, massaman is usually served with chicken or beef. Although there are may variations, the main ingredients are potatoes, peanuts, cinnamon, fish sauce, sugar, onion, coconut milk, chili, galangal and coriander.
Fish with chili sauce
A delicious dish known in Thai as Pla Tub Tim Rad Prik. Usually prepared with the freshwater Nile Tilapia fish because of its juicy meat, although other fish like bass can be used. The fish is covered with a sweet and spicy sauce of garlic, chili, sugar and fish sauce.
Satay chicken
An appetizer of grilled chicken on skewers with peanut sauce. The sauce is made with roasted peanuts, garlic, shallots, sugar, tamarind, galangal, red chilies and lemongrass.
Som Tam Papaya salad
A spicy and sour salad made from unripe papaya. Ingredients are thinly sliced unripe papaya, dried shrimp, crab, fish sauce, lime, palm sugar, eggplant, fish sauce, garlic, chili pepper, yardlong beans, peanuts, tomatoes and dried shrimp that are pounded in a mortar.
Lobster
Available at night markets in seaside towns. Although more expensive than other food, the tender lobster meat eaten with a seafood dipping sauce is a real treat.
Noodle soup
Probably Thailand’s most popular street food. Noodle soups come in a wide variety, usually with egg noodles or rice noodles. The dish can be vegetarian or contain pork or fish. Condiments as fish sauce, dried chili, sugar and fish sauce can be added to everyone’s taste.
Spring rolls
A deep fried appetizer originating from China. They come in a large variety, including vegetarian. Inside the crispy wrapper is a filling containing meat, several vegetables and seasoning. Usually spring rolls are eaten with a sweet and sour sauce.
Mango sticky rice
Mango with sticky rice is one of Thailand’s most delicious desserts. Sliced ripe sweet mango and steamed rice mixed with sugar and coconut cream is served on a plate. Sesame seeds can be sprinkled on top.
Toddy palm cake
A sweet and delicious dessert made from palm sugar, banana, coconut milk, rice flour. The dessert is sprinkled with coconut scrapings and served in banana leaves.
Roti pancake
Available at any street market, the roti is a very popular dessert. The Thai pancake cooked in vegetable oil can be topped with banana, sweet condensed milk, sugar, chocolate sauce or apples.
Khanom Tako
Khanom Tako or Thai jelly with coconut topping is a traditional Thai dessert. It is made of coconut milk, bean flour and sugar and is wrapped in banana leaves.

Thai sweets and candy come in all sizes, shapes and colors. Sample a little of the various sweets on offer and see what you like best.
Coconut juice
Cold coconut water straight from the fruit is a great drink for a hot day. You can also scrape off and eat the white flesh inside the coconut.
