SRT Red Line

The SRT Red Line, consisting of the SRT Dark Red Line and the SRT Light Red Line, is part of Bangkok’s mass transit system. The electric commuter trains operated by the State Railway of Thailand SRT, went into service late 2021.

SRT Dark Red Line

The SRT Dark Red Line, officially named Thani Ratthaya Line, originates at Bang Sue Grand Station, Bangkok’s new central train station. There it connects to the SRT Light Red Line.

Route

The SRT Dark Red Line operates between Bang Sue Grand Station and Rangsit in Pathum Thani province, just North of Bangkok. Total distance is about 26 kilometers.

Operating times

The trains of the SRT Dark Red Line operate daily between 5.30 am and midnight. There is a train every 12 minutes during morning and evening rush hour, every 20 minutes during the rest of the day.

Ticket prices

Fares depend on the distance traveled and vary between 12 and 42 Baht.

Dark Red Line Link to Don Muang airport

The SRT Dark Red Line connects Bang Sue Grand Station to Don Muang airport. One way fare is 33 Baht, the trip takes about 20 minutes. A skywalk connects the train station to the airport.

Don Muang is the old airport mainly used by low cost airlines. Bangkok’s main airport is Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Future extensions

Several extensions have been planned, one of them being Bang Sue Grand Station to Hua Lamphong, the old central train station.

Plans have been made to extend the line further to Maha Chai and Maeklong, the location of the Maeklong Railway Market.

SRT Light Red Line

The SRT Light Red Line, officially named Nakhon Withi Line, originates at Bang Sue Grand Station, Bangkok’s new central train station. There it connects to the SRT Dark Red Line.

Route

The SRT Light Red Line runs from Bang Sue Grand Station to Taling Chan West of the Chao Phraya river, an area known as Thonburi. The track covers a distance of 15 kilometers.

The trains of the SRT Light Red Line operate daily from 5.30 am until midnight.

Ticket prices

Fares depend on distance traveled. Minimum fare is 12 Baht, maximum fare 42 Baht.

Future extensions

Plans exist for several extensions, among others one to nearby Nakhon Pathom province.

Where to buy tickets

Tickets for the SRT Red Line in the form of tokens can be bought at vending machines and at the ticket office.

How to use the ticket

Scan the token on one of the turnstiles on your way to the train platform. At the arrival station, insert the token into the turnstile slide on your way out.
