Cicada Market
Cicada is a large outdoor night market with a relaxed atmosphere that opens from Friday to Sunday. The busy open air market in a garden like environment is well visited by tourists and Thai people alike. Besides the many market stalls there is lots of freshly cooked food, live music and a small theater.
Browse the market for arts and crafts, fashion and fashion accessories and knick knacks. At dozens of stalls vendors offer a good variety of Thai, Asian and Western food at good prices as well as a wide choice of Thai sweets and fruits.
Food
Across the market are stalls where you can get freshly cooked food from various regions of Thailand as well as Western food.
Thai food & seafood
Try dishes as Massaman curry, Pad Thai, Gaeng Keow Wan, fried rice with pork or chicken, BBQ chicken, deep fried pork, Thai salads or Northern Thai food as Khao Soi. There is a wide choice of fresh seafood like fish, King prawn, lobster, shellfish and crab.
Western food
If you prefer Western food try a pizza, spaghetti, a hamburger, kebab or spare ribs with mashed patatoes.
Thai snacks & sweets
Afterwards try some snacks or sweets like mango and sticky rice, roti or a pancake.
Food and drinks are paid for with coupons bought at various booths across the market. The remaining coupons are refunded.
Shopping
At dozens of stalls vendors sell art, decorative items, stuff for in the home, knick knacks and handmade items produced by local craftsmen. Among the items for sale are jewelry, watches, silk products, clothing and fashion accessories.
Arts section
At one end of Cicada market local artists display and sell art works, mainly paintings and sketches. The paintings of local scenery and beaches make for a good souvenir. Here you can also have your portrait sketched for a few hundred Baht.
Small amphitheater
Near the entrance is a small open air amphitheater where you can watch a theatrical performance. Entrance is free, the performance is in Thai language.
Tamarind market
Next to the market is Tamarind market, which is smaller than Cicada. The often busy market offers Thai and international food at low prices as well as live music.
Opening hours
Cicada market opens from Friday until Sunday.
Friday and Saturday from 4 pm until 11 pm and Sunday from 4 pm until 10 pm.
The market can get crowded, especially during long weekends and Thai National Holidays.
Location
Cicada is located on Nong Kae - Takiab road at the South end of Hua Hin in Khao Takiab near the Holiday Inn Resort.
How to get there
Take a green songthaew from the center of Hua Hin town. The ride should take about 10 minutes, one way fare is 20 Baht per person.
Entrance fee
Entrance to both Cicada market and Tamarind market is free.
