Chiang Mai Night Safari
Chiang Mai Night Safari is a large open zoo near Chiang Mai city. Visitors can go around on foot or by open tram and get close to animals as zebras, giraffes, lions and bears. Take a daytime safari by open tram and feed the animals or take a night safari and watch the animals that are active after dark.
Get up close to exotic animals from various continents. The zoo houses over 1,400 animals of more than 130 species. The animals walk free in a savanna and jungle like environment resembling a natural habitat.
Fun day out for adults and children
Chiang Mai Night Safari is a fun day out for both adults and children touring the zoo, feeding the animals and watching the shows. Children can have fun at the playground of Children World, which opens daily from 11 am until 7 pm.
Animals
Chiang Mai Night Safari houses over 1,400 animals of over 130 species from various continents.
Among them are desert fox, hyena, camel, lion, while lion, porcupine, green iguana, clouded leopard, leopard cat, jaguar, Malayan tapir, bear and alpaca, a small mammal that looks like a llama. Also, there are many colorful birds as macaw parrots, golden pheasant and crowned cranes.
Three zones
The open zoo consists of three zones, the Savanna Safari, Predator Prowl and Jaguar Trail. At the center is a large lake. The Savanna Safari and Predator Prowl zones can be toured by open safari tram. The Jaguar Trail is a walking only zone.
Savanna Safari
The Savanna Safari, named after the African savanna, houses animals as giraffes, elephants, antelopes, zebras, rhinos and deer. The easiest way to get around the 2.4 kilometer trail is by open tram of the daytime safari or the night safari.
Predator Prowl
In this zone you can see some of nature’s most fierce hunters like lions, bears, tigers and pumas. Travel the 2.4 kilometer trail by open safari tram of the daytime safari or night safari.
Jaguar Trail
The Jaguar Trail is a walking only zone at the lake. Follow the jungle trail and meet animals as tortoises, tigers, jaguars and many species of colorful birds. The zone opens from 11:00 until 22:00.
Day Safari & Night Safari
The most comfortable way to get around the open zoo is by open safari tram. Get very close to animals as giraffes, kangaroos and deer and feed them. Some animals like the giraffes poke their heads right into the open tram looking for food, a fun experience, especially for children. Make sure to buy some food for them before getting on the tram.
Take the night safari to tour the zoo after dark. Spotlights on the tram light up the animals in the dark. Flash photography is not allowed on the night safari.
The day safari tram departs every 30 minutes between 15:00 and 16:30.
The night safari tram departs at 18:50, 19:30, 20:30, 21:30 and 22:00.
Shows
Visitors can watch several shows.
Musical Fountain Show
A show with a water screen, fountains over 12 meters high and 20 meters wide and light and sound effects. You can watch the Musical Fountain Show at 20:10 and 21:10 every day.
Night Predators Show
A show evolving around animals that hunt at night, such as tigers, lions, bears and hyenas. The show stars daily at 17:20, 18:50 and 20:40.
Tiger Show
This show features several species of tigers including the Indochinese tiger and the white tiger. The shows is performed daily at 18:00 and 19:30. On Friday and Saturday there is an extra show at 20:30.
Creatures of the Night
The show evolves around animals that are active during the night. Creatures of the Night starts daily at 18:00, 19:00, 20:00 and 21:00.
Food and drink
At the food corner you will find a coffee shop and a restaurant. Payment is made with a cash card.
Location
Chiang Mai Night Safari is located at 33 Moo 12 in Hang Dong district, about 12 kilometers South West of the old city, close to Royal Flora Ratchaphruek botanical gardens.
How to get there
Get there by chartered red songthaew or taxi. Agree on the price before leaving. Songthaews and taxis wait at the zoo exit for the way back to Chiang Mai.
Opening hours
Chiang Mai Night Safari opens daily from 11:00 until 22:00.

Child rate: Height 100 - 140 cm
