Wan Fah Dinner Cruise
The Wan Fah Dinner Cruise is an enjoyable evening with Thai dinner, cultural performances and views of the river scenery by night with some of the city’s best sights.
Traditional and romantic dinner cruise
A traditional and romantic dinner cruise with a relaxed ambiance, the cruise provides plenty of good photo opportunities of Bangkok’s skyline and famous landmarks as the Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn.
The two hour scenic cruise on an antique wooden boat sailing up the Chao Phraya river, the “River of Kings”, is a relaxing night out for adults and children alike. Soft music, the river breeze and nighttime river scenery make for a good break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Relaxed atmosphere
The Wan Fah boat is smaller than most dinner cruise boats and carries fewer passengers, which lends the cruise a more intimate feeling.
Going on board, passengers are greeted in the traditional Thai way with a wai, the gesture of pressing both hands together. The atmosphere on board is relaxed. Soothing traditional Thai music is played on traditional instruments.
Traditional wooden boat
The Wan Fah cruise ship is an antique teak wooden boat in traditional Lanna architecture, the style of North Thailand. The converted rice barge has a single deck that is open on all sides, giving diners good views of the sites on both river banks.
Famous landmarks on the river banks
Along the ship’s route on the Chao Phraya river are some of Bangkok’s most iconic sites. The Wan Fah dinner cruise ship takes diners past the historical district Rattanakosin where Bangkok was established in 1782. The area houses some of the city’s most famous sites including the Grand Palace and the Wat Pho.
On the other side of the river stands the Wat Arun, the “Temple of Dawn”, with its imposing pagoda beautifully illuminated at night.
Other historical landmarks are the 17th century Wichai Prasit Fort and the colonial style Yodpiman River Walk building. Among the modern landmarks along the route are high-rise luxury hotels and the impressive Rama VIII bridge.
Cultural shows
After dinner passengers can watch Thai classical dance and a Khon masked dance performance.
Thai classical dance
Moving gracefully and slowly, elegant dancers wearing beautiful, long colorful dresses perform a classical dance show. The dance is accompanied by music played on traditional Thai instruments.
Khon masked dance performance
Dancers wearing elaborately adorned costumes and masks perform a Khon masked dance based on the Ramakien, the Thai version of the Indian epic Ramayana. Elegant expressions made with hands, fingers, feet and body convey the emotions of the scene. The performance is accompanied by traditional Piphat music.
